This background is taking forever because it requires some thought and effort as it is used in several scenes, and plus work picked up right as I was figuring it out. I reallly want to finish it tonight, but I also reeaallly want a cup of tea and an episode of Futurama....

Daily Crapbook: Mah Back Hurts
Work is picking up for the next few weeks, so I need to make the most of my free time and finish the crap out of Monkey Rag. But my back is really, really, hurting. I think the mature thing to do is to suck it up, accept the time loss, and do some major stretching today. Stupid inescapable facts of reality and physical being...

"Adam and Dog" is Animation Paradise
I wish I didn't watch Adam and Dog so late tonight, because all I want to do now is stay up sketching. If you haven't yet watched this Oscar-nominated short, I insist you do so. This film encapsulates what is so powerful about traditional animation, and about good storytelling in general. It is so engrossing and mature, and not in the video game rating way. The art direction is painfully beautiful (painful to just me probably, because I'm having so much trouble with my own backgrounds at moment), and the animation has so much personality and intent that it communicates volumes even though the characters are basically silhouettes in a distant long shot throughout much of the film. The story is simple, and very intelligently plotted. I must stop writing now because its way past my bedtime and I haven't gotten any work done tonight. I'll end this by reiterating that you must see Adam and Dog, but be sure to allot yourself plenty of time to muse over it afterwards. (Apologies to Minkyu Lee for the crappy fanart.)

Daily Crapbook: Cat Nap
My geriatric cat has developed a disturbing new sleep habit which is in fact disturbing my sleep habit. My vet says cats aren't capable of the complex emotions like vindictiveness, but I can't shake the feeling that she's punishing me for something.

Thank You, Have A Duck!
Since my post about being a terrible Marceline, I've gotten a lot of really nice comments that a) make me happy and b) make me feel silly for letting it phase me in the first place. So thank you everyone! I'm as happy as a duck. :)

Marceline Apology
You may remember me posting the video of this Adventure Time interstitial last year, about how I got to be Marceline and how much fun it was and so on. Well, it just got a Kidscreen award (its a major award!) so I thought blog a little "congratulations to the team!" post about it. But when I went to grab the video link I saw that the top comment, with 100 votes and counting, is "The Marceline was terrible." Yup. Just thought I'd address that.

Monkey Rag Sc04 Background Test
Trying to do a background a day, but I'm finding that I make better decisions if I let ideas stew overnight. I guess I should try to hit two a day to make up for it.

Happy Birthday Blair Crimmins!
Blair Crimmins, of "and the Hookers" fame, has a birthday today! Why don't you thank him for creating such wonderful music by voting for him in this Creative Loafing contest. And if you haven't heard his music yet, it will totally make a Hooker out of you. (That's a song reference, not a job on Juniper Street. Just to be clear.)

#FAFATL February: Birds and Bees
In one of those confluences of circumstance that make life sweet, this month's #FAFATL drop is also to do with Monkey Rag. See, "birds and bees" has to do with love, and it's February 1st which has Valentine's Day, which is also to do with love they say, and the nugget of it all is that Monkey Rag has birds and bees in it, so what I did, see, was make those birds and bees from Monkwy Rag into the drop for February's #FAFATL! See what I did there? It is complicated, don't fret, let me run it by you again. See, the birds and the bees...
