Minette Magnifique

There's a young burlesque troupe in Atlanta that's lots of fun called Minette Magnifique. Whereas many troupes use the word "burlesque" as a tasteful euphemism for plain ol' stripping, Minette really hearkens back to a vintage pin-up girl classy/cute kind of striptease, with comic sketches in between. On a related note, it now my goal in life to create a comedy sketch for every Ruth Wallis song ever recorded. Also, the girls are fun to draw.

Awesome work. I actually attend a monthly drink and draw/life drawing class called Dr. Sketchy here in Cleveland. It has a pretty heavy focus on drawing burlesque performers. They have them all over the place so you might want to check if they have one by you.

Yes, we do have a Dr. Sketchy's in Atlanta, too. But last I looked it was being held in the Clermont Lounge, and I refuse under any circumstances to set foot in that toilet. Maybe they've changed locations- its been my New Year's resolution two years in a row to get back into life drawing.

That's a shame. I found it was a cool way to meet other artists and talk shop. Also, They don't reprimand you for drinking...like certain life drawing teachers I know ;)
