I've been submitting to festivals, and have started to hear back. I got into a local animation showcase, which is great, but then I got a very pleasant rejection letter from Ottawa. Its only one rejection, but it was an important one upon which I had pinned a lot of hope. Dealing with the reality of it this evening has left me feeling four year's worth of tired. I know it is petty to whine over one rejection, but I think I'll get over it faster if I don't try to hide my disillusionment behind pinups and bunnies. Tomorrow, back to work.

Hey Jo,
I know how you feel. I was rejected from Ottawa as well, thinking the whole time that with all the effort I spent - five years of late nights, etc. - I was sure to get in. It was a sting - like not getting into the college I wanted to get into.
All I can say is that I did have a very good time during the festival run. I spoke to a lot of groups at the festivals I could attend, and they were all great experiences and now great memories.
All the best to you.

That is exactly how I feel, Dave. Like if all the years of effort I put in aren't good enough, I just don't think I have it in me to ever make it.
I can't believe they rejected "Alien For Christmas." That's just stupid. But I'm glad you told me- it helps to put things in perspective. And that you found success on festival circuit even without Ottawa is heartening- I hope I can follow in your footsteps.
Thanks!
Joanna

The list of great films rejected by Ottawa is a mile long , so you're in good company. The festival director has some eccentric tastes (imo) . Some of the films accepted by Ottawa are mind-numbingly dull and there are other films I know of which were rejected (The Secret of Kells is one I recall) which I can't imagine any animation festival not wanting to screen , but what do I know ?
Secret of Kells got rejected? That is insanity. Thanks for the note- these things do help give me a thicker skin.
